Scale

The ratio of the length in a drawing, map, or geometric model to the corresponding length in reality. It is used to represent large or small objects accurately while preserving their proportions.

Example

A map with a scale of $1:100,000$ means that $1 \text{ cm}$ on the map represents $100,000 \text{ cm}$ (which is equal to $1 \text{ km}$) in the real world.
