Numerator

The numerator is the top number in a fraction. It represents how many parts of the whole are being considered, while the bottom number (the denominator) represents the total number of equal parts the whole is divided into.

Example

In the fraction $\frac{3}{4}$, the number $3$ is the numerator. This means you have $3$ out of $4$ equal parts (for example, $3$ slices of a cake that has been cut into $4$ equal slices).
