Latitude

Latitude is an angular measurement that describes a location's position north or south of the Earth's equator. It is measured in degrees, ranging from $0^\circ$ at the equator to $90^\circ$ at the poles. It is widely used in Earth geometry to find distances and locations.

Example

The latitude of Dar es Salaam is approximately $6^\circ \text{ S}$ (or $-6^\circ$). Any point on this latitude forms a circle parallel to the equator.
