Rational Number

A rational number is any number that can be expressed as a simple fraction or ratio $\frac{p}{q}$, where $p$ and $q$ are both integers, and the denominator $q$ is strictly not equal to zero. This includes all integers, terminating decimals, and repeating decimals.

Example

The number $5$ is a rational number because it can be written as $\frac{5}{1}$. Similarly, the repeating decimal $0.333...$ is rational because it represents the exact fraction: $$ \frac{1}{3} $$
