Factor
A number or algebraic expression that divides another number or expression evenly, leaving no remainder. Factoring is the process of breaking down an expression into a product of its factors.
Example
The factors of $12$ are $1, 2, 3, 4, 6,$ and $12$. In algebra, $(x + 2)$ and $(x - 2)$ are factors of the quadratic expression $x^2 - 4$, since $(x + 2)(x - 2) = x^2 - 4$.
