Approximation

An approximation is a representation of a number or value that is not exact but is close enough to be useful for a specific purpose. It is often achieved by rounding numbers, making complex calculations easier and results more manageable to communicate.

Example

The mathematical constant $\pi$ is an irrational number with an infinite decimal sequence ($3.14159265...$), but it is frequently approximated to two decimal places in basic calculations: $$ \pi \approx 3.14 $$
